
Brief
Organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, the City of Merchants event brings a programme of culture, history and street performances to Newry to celebrate the waterways, canals and rich maritime history of the City.
In 2017, Circle was commissioned to create a brand identity design that would encapsulate the theme of the festival ‘A celebration and commemoration of Newry’s history of trade’.
We understood that Merchant, Mercantile and Maritime were key elements of this event, therefore the creation of an event brand/theme must portray this and immediately visually link to Newry. The brand design needed to be future-proof if the festival were to develop.
Solution
Circle developed a festival brand theme that was truly eye-catching and gave a real sense of place with the use of iconic buildings from Newry town centre. The design was a great success and helped drive footfall to the events.
